Homemade Kefir

Homemade Kefir

Homemade kefir is one of the simplest and most rewarding fermented foods you can make. With just milk and kefir grains, you can create a creamy, tangy drink that’s naturally rich in probiotics and enzymes. Made right on your kitchen countertop it’s the quickest and easiest way to get in gut loving probiotics without the need to buy lab made supplements.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 tsp organic kefir grains
  • 450ml organic raw milk
  1. Put the kefir grains into a 500ml jar or jug. Add in the milk and leave about 5 cm or more head room on top. Cover with a clean cotton or line cloth and tighten around the jug with a rubber band.
  2. Set aside at room temperature for 18-24 hours to ferment.
  3. It’s turned to kefir when the milk has slightly thicken.
  4. It might have set and separated, this is normal!
  5. Strain it to remove the kefir grains and transfer to a bottle.
  6. You can drink it straight away but we think it taste nicer cold.
  7. Transfer to the fridge where you can store it for up to 6-7 days.
